Ralph J. O’Neill
Ralph O’Neill joined MacDonald Rudy in 1998. His practice focuses on civil litigation matters, including maritime, insurance coverage, bad faith claims on behalf of insurers, products liability, professional negligence, personal injury defense, contract negotiations, and commercial disputes and transactions.
In his thirty years of practice, Mr. O’Neill has developed substantial trial experience in both state and federal courts. He has successfully argued matters before the Hawaii Supreme Court.
Mr. O’Neill’s maritime practice primarily involves representation of vessel interests under protection & indemnity and maritime employers’ liability policies in Jones Act and passenger claims.
In addition to defending a wide variety of wrongful death and serious injury cases, Mr. O’Neill has served as lead counsel for primary and excess insurers, including providing representation for the primary carrier on coverage in one of the largest construction defect cases in Hawaii.
Mr. O’Neill emphasizes strategic case management and utilizes cost-effective and innovative approaches to achieve clients’ goals, which has allowed him to maintain long-term relationships with clients who are predominantly referred by word of mouth. He has encouraged the law firm’s substantial investment in legal technology that promotes increased efficiency and effectiveness in representation of clients.
Before joining MacDonald Rudy, Mr. O’Neill formerly worked at the Honolulu law firm Davis Reid & Richards, AAL, in 1988, where he became a partner in 1993 after the firm became Reid Richards & Miyagi, AAL.
